Given the primary function of the Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team, here are five program areas we cover, tailored to support the response and recovery of citizens affected by natural and manmade disasters, as well as to assist first responders and emergency management staff:
-
Emergency Meal Service Program
-
Description: Through our local COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) agreements, we will work with local restaurants, food trucks, and volunteers to provide hot meals to disaster-affected residents in shelter and first responders during the initial response phase.
-
Benefits: Ensures that both affected citizens and responders have access to nutritious meals, reducing stress and allowing them to focus on recovery efforts.
-
-
Temporary Housing and Shelter Assistance Program
-
Description: We will operate at the request of the County Judge and the mayor. We have a system for rapidly deploying temporary shelter needs, such as short-term hotel assistance, providing volunteers to work with City of Bastrop shelter staff if a shelter is opened by COB or by opening the newly opened Bastrop County Shelter for displaced citizens. This program would include partnerships with local hotels through our Bastrop County COAD agreements and short-term rental providers to offer temporary housing solutions if needed.
-
Benefits: Provides immediate, safe shelter for those who have lost their homes, aiding in their stability and well-being during the recovery process.
-
-
First Responder Support and Staging Area
-
Description: Develop designated staging areas equipped with necessary supplies and amenities for Bastrop first responders and other agencies that are responding. These areas would provide rest, meals, medical supplies, and communication tools to support the emergency personnel.
-
Benefits: Enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of first responders by ensuring they have the resources and rest needed to perform their duties.
-
-
Disaster Recovery Resource Hotline
-
Description: Implement a 24/7 disaster recovery hotline staffed by trained volunteers who can provide immediate information and assistance to affected citizens. The hotline would offer guidance on accessing food, shelter, medical care, and mental health support.
-
Benefits: Offers a direct line of support for residents in distress, helping them navigate the recovery process and access vital resources quickly.
-
-
Disaster Volunteer Assistance
-
Description: Offer a trained group of volunteers ready to deploy in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. This group would assist with tasks such as running the hotline, setting up shelters, distributing supplies, and supporting emergency management staff.
-
Benefits: Expands the capabilities of first responders and emergency management personnel, allowing for a more rapid and comprehensive response to disasters.
